The University of Jos Management launched
the Operation Beauty from Ashes Campaign today on the 20th October,
2016 and it has in attendance Principal officers among others. Hosting the program at the Main Library
Complex Bauchi Road Campus, The host and University Librarian welcomed members
of the University community to the Launch and indulged all to participate in
the campaign. He said “all Library activities have continued in the Bauchi road
campus Library since the fire and we encourage all staff and students that
have borrowed books to return them so they will be duly discharged. We also have
online Subscribed data bases on the Library webpage for student to consult and shelves
will be put in place in the Bauchi Road Campus for collections that will be
coming in for the Faculties that were razed by the fire”.

Speaking at the Occasion, the Vice
Chancellor and Chairman of the occasion, Prof. Sebastian Seddi Maimako announced
that a structural Integrity test have been carried out by a team of engineers on
the building. In his words “We just received the interim report for the structural
Integrity test carried out on the building and we are glad to announce that the
building can still be occupied but we have been advised against co-habituating
the Library and other offices on that floor”. Massive repairs and resuscitation will be done as
soon as resources are on ground to kick start
the repairs. The Vice Chancellor also announced that all principal officers of
the University have agreed to contribute their own quota to the cause. Each
management member is to contribute the sum of ₦1m each. He also said that Federal
Ministries and Tetfund have been reached to provide support for this cause.

Prof. Lami Longbin, speaking un-behalf of the
Committee of Deans and Directors, announced that when they meet, they will also
bring their own contributions to the rebuilding of the Library.

Education (Books and Journals), Institute of Education (books), Directorate of General
studies (Cash and books, journals) etc were also received
Goodwill messages were also received from
Former University Librarian Prof. A. Ochai, Director Advancement office, ICT
Director, Unijos Alumni and a host of others.
