Tuesday, 22 November 2016

Some Staff of the University of Jos Library were recognized and appreciated for donating towards the rebuilding of the Library.

This happened yesterday, 21st November, 2016, at the cataloging section of the Library.
Issuing the certificate of recognition to the recipients, the Deputy vice Chancellor Administration and a very
special Friend of the Library thanked Members of staff for contributing towards refilling the shelves through the "Operation  beauty from ashes" initiative. She said that as people who have first hand experience of the horror of that night October 8, 2016, she was happy that we have been able to bounce back even though its still not easy having to process books that have earlier been processed before the fire.

The University Librarian encouraged other members of staff to also contribute towards this project as an example to the general public as it is always said "charity begins at home".

Among the recipients of these certificates was Mrs Felicia Meekyaa, from Academic Planning, who donated her late husband's books and journals collection. Others include Dr. Gupiyem Gungsat Gupiyem, Mrs. Taiwo Dorathy Oluwatomisin, Mallam Etubi Mohammed, and Mr. Amos Akwashiki Kuje all of the University library.

A comprehensive list of all donors can be found here

Responding on behalf of the recipients Dr. G. G. Gupiyem thanked the University for this recognition  and reiterated their continued support towards the project.

The University Library wish to call on all individuals, the general public, private and public organizations, corporate bodies, all and sundry to donate towards this noble cause of refilling our shelves and rebuilding the Library to restore our lost glory.

In other news, Students of the University of Jos mobilised by Mr. Akolo Anthony James in conjuction with the office of the speaker Unijos SUG Parliament will be organising an event tagged "POJECT TESTIFY (Refiling our Bookshelves)" in support of the "Operation beauty from ashes".
